Zwe Yan Naing
Zwe Yan Naing was born in Rakhine State in 1984. After living as a monk in Ngapali for nine years from the age of twelve, he moved to Yangon to attend the State School of Fine Arts from 2006 to 2009. Since graduation, he has worked as a full-time artist.
This collage of Aung San, made of banknotes bearing his own image, reproduces the most famous photo ever taken of him. The date is January 1947. The location is Downing Street, London. The occasion is a series of meetings with the British Government that delivered Burmese independence one year later. Aung San was assassinated by a political rival in July 1947.
