City Hall, Yangon 2012
121x91 cm
Zwe Yan Naing
Zwe Yan Naing was born in Rakhine State in 1984. After living as a monk in Ngapali for nine years from the age of twelve, he moved to Yangon to attend the State School of Fine Arts from 2006 to 2009. Since graduation, he has worked as a full-time artist.
This painting is of a fantasy Yangon scene. While the bus and the buildings can all be found in Yangon today, the positions of City Hall and Sule Pagoda have been switched, and the bus is disappearing up into grimy rain clouds. Pollution and change are sweeping the city.
